Honduras Hope

Honduras Hope is a 501C(3) non-profit organization dedicated to supporting the economically and politically marginalized poor rural communities of Honduras.

We are very fortunate to have Bill and Susan Briggs, who develop and coordinate our projects stateside. Their tireless work over many years has earned the trust and respect of the people in and around Yoro. Bill believes that "Community development is both an inward and an outward journey. Inwardly the spirit must change to the belief that "I am Somebody"; as outwardly the belief becomes that "juntos, todo es possible." This change is visible in the smiles, growing confidence and positive attitude blossoming in villagers, farmers and young people in Plan Grande and San Jose. Through long-term partnerships, volunteers work alongside the Honduran people to help in the execution of self-determined projects that strengthen the health, education and economic development of the communities and increase their self-sufficiency.

Working with Honduran communities creates a cross-cultural understanding. As Honduran communities and individuals are transformed our volunteers are also transformed-- by witnessing and participating in this work and they, in turn, share their deeper understanding of spirituality and the problems of the developing world with their own churches, colleges and families.

Honduras Hope has been added to the list of charities that have earned the prestigious Seal of Excellence from Independent Charities of America. The Independent Charities Seal of Excellence is awarded to the members of Independent Charities of America and Local Independent Charities of America that have, upon rigorous independent review, been able to certify, document, and demonstrate on an annual basis that they meet the highest standards of public accountability, program effectiveness, and cost effectiveness.

Of the 1 million charities operating in the United States today, it is estimated that fewer than 5 percent, meet or exceed these standards, and of those, fewer than 2,000 have been awarded this Seal.
